The Move Abroad Checklist (20 Things To Do Before Your Move)
Everything You Need To Prepare For Your Move Abroad.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve made almost every mistake you can imagine when moving abroad:
Letting my passport get too close to expiry and scrambling last minute
Not cancelling subscriptions back home that bleeding money for months
Losing access to banking because I didn’t set it up properly before leaving
And many more…
So after 6 residencies, dozens of immigration offices, and far too many hours of stress, I’ve learned one thing:
Moving abroad is about systems.
If you want freedom in another country, you need to prepare for it.
That’s why I created The Move Abroad Checklist.
The Move Abroad Checklist
Why I Made This
When I started Digital Citizen, I wanted to help people actually succeed at building a life abroad instead of just dreaming about it.
There’s tons of advice online, but most of it only shows you the best parts.
Beautiful destinations, low costs, easy visas.
What’s missing is what you actually need to prepare before you go.
This checklist covers the “boring stuff” that actually trips people up.
What’s Inside & How To Use It
The Move Abroad Checklist is broken into 5 categories:
Documents & Legal
Money & Banking
Health & Insurance
Lifestyle & Daily Life
Tech & Setup
Look through each section and handle what applies to your situation. You don’t need to do these in any particular order.
At the end, there is a 1-Pager with every item to “check off” (who doesn’t love checking off to do lists?).
Why It’s Free
I’m giving it away because I remember how confusing everything was when I started planning my first move. I made expensive mistakes that a simple checklist like this could have prevented.
If this helps you avoid even one of those mistakes, then it’s done its job.
If you want to do me a favor though, feel free to spread the word!
Ready to Get Started?
Download the checklist below. Work through the 20 steps at your own pace, and you’ll have the basics covered before you go.
PS
I really appreciate you being here and reading along.
This project only makes sense because of people like you. If you go through the checklist, let me know in the comments which point you found the most helpful.
I always read the feedback and it helps me make these resources even better.
